Musashi Miyamoto is one of the most famous swordsman in history of Japan. He worked between 16th - 17th century. He is very popular still now in Japan.
The butt cap (kashira) with hone is the point of Miyamoto-Musashi style mount. But we are not sure if such an unique mount is developed by himself. Anyway, it is a kind of Higo style mount, and especially called "Miyamoto-Musashi style".
The silk cord on the handle is hardened with urushi lacquer.
