Tanto "Fuyuhiro" with Hitatsura hamon

Blade length 27.0cm, thickness at the base 8mm, width 2.2cm

This is a thick tanto blade made by Fuyuhiro who is a smith in Wakasa province. There are many generations in Fuyuhiro linage, and the 1st generation was came from Sagami province (So-shu). So, they are descendants of so-called "Soshu tradition". This blade looks from 15th century or 16th.

Steel has a wood grain layer pattern. It is visible.

Hamon is made of large particles. Its pattern is mainly gunome, including activities like kinsuji, sunagashi and others. Jumping hamon (tobi-yaki) appears and the hamon turns back and runs along the back. So the hamon pattern is very active. It is so-called "Hitatsura". But it is very hard to take that active hamon by camera.

Polishing is honest sashikomi style (no acid). But it is a little old as the blade surface has some scratches and some marks of old rust. But because of the honest polishing, you can study those active hamon as it is.
This blade is worn as you can see in the pictures, but still it has a big thickness. So it is a typical blade of "Yoroi-doshi".

Habaki is silver foiled, probably from Edo period.
