Musashino-sukashi, Akasaka

71mm x 68mm x 6mm

This is a good tsuba made by the Akasaka school around18th century. The steel is very good, and so is the cut out work. The rim is rounded (Maru-mimi).
Musashino is a plain field of Musashi province (the area around Tokyo and Saitana). Once before 12th century, the land was a wilderness and filled with grasses. The motif "Musashino" is made of "Susuki" (Japanese pampasgrass) and moon.
