"Umetada Shigenari"

7.6cm x 7.5cm x 4mm

The design is stream and rocks.
The steel is very good.
And the engraving is very skilful, especially the surge is.
I don't understand the meaning of the two holes on the right side.
I heard that they are for cord.
And the cord use to fasten to scabbard in peaceful days, and done to wrist in battle time.
I am not sure with the explanation, but I feel these holes should be important for this tsuba in old days.
Some gold are left on it.
It feels atmosphere.
"Yamashiro (no) kuni ju" on the right. "Umetada Shigenari" on the left.
Umetada Shigenari lived in Kyoto in middle Edo period (18th century).
Then he moved to Edo being employed by Shogun.
