Katana Mumei with shirasaya
blade length 70.2cm, curvature 1.7cm, tang length 18cm
width at the base 3.1cm, at the yokote 2.1cm
thickness at the base 7mm, at the yokote 4.5mm
This is a real Japanese blade made by traditional material
and method, but the skill is not very good. Probably it was made as a blade
for military mount in WWII.
The surface meat is slim, so it may be suitable for cutting
performance (Tameshi-giri) with straw mat.
The steel is not so bad. It looks normal quality in the
Gendai-to.
The hamon is good at its temper line. The particles of
the hamon is neat and bright. But the pattern is so poor that shows an
amateur way.
The tang
The habaki is silver.
The shirasaya.
