Groeden/Val Gardena 1998

On the 18 December 1998,
there was the first of 2 downhill races in Groeden/Val Gardena.
It always looks so spectacular on TV
so I decided to see it live once in my life.
I went there with my Dad,
it was Friday and my friends had to work.
It was a clear, sunny day, not too cold at all and no snow around.
There were only a few visitors, maybe 50 persons.
The race started in time,
I was only expecting one skier : Kjetil Andre Aamodt from Norway,
my favourite from the first day I watched alpine skiing.
Finally he took fifth place, the best result ever in Groeden,I think.
The winner was Lasse Kjus, another Norwegian.
As I walked around there,
suddenly I saw HIM - Kjetil Andre Aamodt, leaving the area.
I stopped him and asked for a photo and he smiled friendly and agreed.
I was really happy.
